For one middle school student in Florida, his hair cut started out as just a way to support the Tampa Bay Rays but it’s ending up causing him and his family to change school districts.
The student – 12-year-old Zachary Sharples – is serving in-school-suspesion for his “ray-hawk” – shaving your head into a mohawk style to show support for the Rays. .
Sharples utilized shears, hair dye and had is mohawk colored blue, but washed out the dye before he headed to school the next morning. Apparently, the dye wasn’t the only thing that mattered to the school district.
Sharples was sent to in-school detention for violating the dress code, and has two choices… he can shave his head completely, or spend every day in detention until the hair grows back.
The principal can make the final call, and he’s saying that the haircut is not allowed on campus.
But Zachary won’t have to anguish too long in suspension – he and his family are moving to St. Petersburg in a few days, and Zachary will be back at a school that will allow the haircut.
The family won’t say if the move is directly related to the suspension.
